About the Church

UU People

Give them not hell . . . but hope.

— John Murray, Universalist Minster, 1700

Unitarian Universalism is a faith which affirms each person’s journey. We encourage every individual to discover her/his own religious truth. We draw the best from the major world religions as well as from our Judeo-Christian heritage. Our faith is a dynamic process of continually exploring and expanding our sphere of relatedness.

This church is a fellowship of seekers after truth, bound by no dogma, restricted by no creed. The purpose of this fellowship is to bring those who believe in free inquiry into matters of religion into closer acquaintance and cooperation. Relying upon reason as our guide, and upon freedom as our method, we seek to grow in understanding of ourselves and of our world, and to serve one another.
UU People With these words a handful of dedicated families spoke First Unitarian Church into existence in 1952. Fifty-five years later, ours is still a community of seekers after truth. Unrestricted by creed, we seek wisdom, understanding of life’s mysteries, and a sense of our own place in creation through a variety of avenues: our own experience of the world; our Judeo-Christian heritage; the great religions of the world; the teachings of science, history and philosophy, the earth centered traditions of native peoples; and the words and deeds of great thinkers, poets, artists, activists, of all ages and cultures.

First Unitarian Church is a
Welcoming Congregation.

We invite and embrace all seekers, regardless of creed, race, culture, age, sexual orientation, or ability.

Ministry

Our church has a full time minister who preaches and serves as a resource to individuals, committees and leadership teams. He is available to consult with members by appointment.

Religious Education Religious Education

The great end in religious instruction is not to stamp our minds upon the young, but to stir up their own.
— Sophia Fahs
We consider Religious Education to be a life long process. Our children attend religious education classes concurrently with Sunday service. They join their parents for the first part of the service once a month before going to class. We have classes for pre-school, elementary, junior and senior high. Adult religious education series are held periodically on week nights. We believe learning happens over a lifetime.
